Pecan Bread Dressing

Servings: 6–8

Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb fresh pork sausage, removed from casing and crumbled
  • 6 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped yellow onions
  • 3/4 cup chopped celery
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 (12-inch) loaf day-old French bread, broken into chunks
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (green tops only)
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 2 cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth (or more as needed)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a casserole dish and set aside.
  2. In a skillet, brown the sausage until fully cooked. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  3. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions, celery, and garlic. Cook 4–5 minutes until soft. Transfer mixture to a large bowl.
  4. Add sausage, bread chunks, parsley, green onions, thyme, and pecans. Season with salt and cayenne. Mix well.
  5. Add enough chicken broth to moisten the mixture.
  6. Transfer stuffing into prepared casserole dish and bake about 30 minutes, until warmed through and lightly golden.
