Les Oreilles de Cochon

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil, for deep frying
  • 1 cup sugar cane syrup
  • 1 cup chopped Cane River Pecans

Directions:

  1. Beat the egg until foamy. Add the milk and blend well.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt twice. Add to the egg mixture and blend until combined.
  3. Cut off small portions of dough (about the size of a walnut) and roll each out thinly on a lightly floured board.
  4. Drop each piece into hot oil. Twist with a fork while frying until light golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Boil sugar cane syrup until it forms a soft ball when dropped in cold water. Drizzle over fried pastries.
  6. While syrup is still warm, sprinkle chopped pecans over the pastries. Serve warm.
